About McLoughlin Scar Tissue Release

'McLoughlin Scar Tissue Release': MSTR

The Treatment

MSTR is a gentle hands on technique that works directly on the scar tissue, bringing about physical and in some cases emotional change associated with the scar. The technique has been developed by Alastair Mc Loughlin, a Bowen therapist and teacher, for the treatment of scars, due to accidents, surgery, trauma or self harm. MSTR has also been found to be very helpful where dense fibrous tissue is present, such as Planta Fasciitis, Tendon damage, certain cases of Frozen shoulder and Dupuytren’s Contracture. I work directly on the scar, using precise movements with the index finger, to help remodel the scar tissue without force, pressure, stretching or oils. This can then help the appearance of the scar, any localised pain, sensitivity or swelling due to poor lymph drainage around the scar site, plus improved ranges of movement.

MSTR for Plantar Fasciitis:

What MSTR can help?

The technique helps to remodel scar tissue not just on the surface but also deeper through the layers of the body, where restriction and pain may be experienced away from the site of the scar. For example in the case of Caesarian, Hysterectomy or abdominal surgery scars, lower back pain may be experienced, reflux, bowel problems or headaches. Appendix scars treatment has also been reported to help with opposite side hip pain and Gall bladder scar treatment related to right shoulder pain relief. Scars can also hold a lot of emotions, whether its the appearance of the scar or the event in which the scar was acquired. Theses emotions may be experienced as low self-esteem, loss of confidence, self image problems, anxiety, PTSD or disconnection from that body part.

MSTR can be very helpful in releasing these deeply-held emotions associated with the scar, working gentle and very much at the individuals pace.

When can a scar be treated?

For treatment the scar must be fully healed, at least eight weeks after surgery and signed off by the surgeon. Scars over plates and pins can benefit from the treatment, however this treatment is not recommended over areas where surgical mesh has been used. Even scars that are many years even decades old can be helped with MSTR. Treatment many only need a couple of sessions, depending on the size, nature and emotional connection to the scar, many will feel significant improvements from a single session. This treatment can be very beneficial when used along side Lymphatic Drainage to assist
lymph congestion.
